A US university says it will be the first school in the country to give iPhones and iPods to all new students. The 900 students who will start at the private Abilene Christian University in Texas later this year will be given the choice of an iPhone or an iPod Touch which can connect to the internet via wireless networks but does not function as a cellphone.

More college students are taking online courses at college and universities in the US Midwest than ever before. According to a new report from the Sloan Consortium and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC), 460,000 students in MHEC’s 11-member states took at least one online course in the autumn of 2005, which represents a one-year growth rate of 35 per cent – roughly in line with nationwide rises.

The future of e-learning in the UK 35%
E-learning has come a long way in Britain since the rise and untimely demise of the Government’s flagship online education project, UKeU.
